Introduction
The EZ-Bar Skull Crusher, also known as the French Press, is a highly effective isolation exercise targeting the triceps brachii, the muscle group responsible for extending the elbow. Utilizing the unique cambered shape of the EZ-Bar, this exercise reduces strain on the wrists and elbows compared to a straight bar, making it a preferred choice for many lifters. By lying on a flat bench and lowering the bar towards the forehead or just behind the head, lifters can achieve a deep stretch in the triceps, promoting muscle hypertrophy and strength gains. Incorporating EZ-Bar Skull Crushers into your routine can help develop well-defined, powerful triceps, which are crucial for enhancing overall upper body strength and aesthetics.Execution
How to Execute EZ-Bar Skull Crushers
Setup
- Lie down on a flat bench with your feet firmly planted on the ground.
- Grasp an EZ-bar with a close grip (hands about shoulder-width apart) using an overhand grip (palms facing forward).
- Extend your arms fully, holding the bar directly above your chest. This is your starting position.
Execution
- Inhale and begin to lower the bar by bending your elbows, keeping your upper arms stationary. The movement should come solely from the elbows.
- Lower the bar until it is just above your forehead or slightly behind your head, depending on your range of motion and comfort.
- Pause briefly at the bottom of the movement.
- Exhale and press the bar back to the starting position by extending your elbows, ensuring your upper arms remain stationary throughout the movement.
Finishing
- After completing your set, carefully lower the bar to your chest.
- Safely re-rack the bar or have a spotter assist you in placing it back on the rack.
- Stand up slowly to avoid dizziness.
