Introduction

The Standing Cable Press is a versatile and effective exercise designed to target the pectoral muscles, deltoids, and triceps, while also engaging the core for stability. Unlike traditional bench presses, this movement allows for a greater range of motion and continuous tension throughout the exercise, thanks to the cable system. This makes it an excellent choice for those looking to enhance muscle hypertrophy and functional strength. By performing the press in a standing position, you also activate stabilizing muscles in the legs and core, promoting overall balance and coordination. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced lifter, the Standing Cable Press can be a valuable addition to your strength training regimen.

How to Execute Standing Cable Press

Setup

  1. Position the cable pulleys at chest height on both sides of a cable machine.
  2. Attach D-handle attachments to each pulley.
  3. Stand in the center of the machine, facing away from the pulleys, with a handle in each hand.
  4. Step forward with one foot to create a staggered stance for better balance.
  5. Engage your core and maintain a slight bend in your knees.
  6. Position your hands at chest level with elbows bent at approximately 90 degrees.

Execution

  1. Press the handles forward and together in a controlled motion, extending your arms fully in front of you.
  2. Focus on squeezing your chest muscles as you bring the handles together.
  3. Pause briefly at the end of the movement, ensuring your arms are fully extended but not locked out.
  4. Slowly return to the starting position, allowing your elbows to bend and your hands to come back to chest level.

Finishing

  1. Complete the desired number of repetitions.
  2. Carefully release the handles back to the starting position.
  3. Step back to a neutral stance and ensure the weights are securely in place before moving away from the machine.
