Introduction

Clapping Push-Ups, a dynamic and explosive variation of the traditional push-up, are designed to enhance upper body strength, power, and coordination. This plyometric exercise targets the chest, shoulders, and triceps while also engaging the core for stability. By incorporating a clap at the peak of the push-up, you not only challenge your muscular endurance but also improve your fast-twitch muscle fibers, which are crucial for generating quick, powerful movements. Ideal for athletes and fitness enthusiasts looking to elevate their training intensity, Clapping Push-Ups can add a new dimension to your workout routine, promoting both functional strength and athletic performance.

Execution

How to Perform Clapping Push-Ups

Setup

  1. Start in a standard push-up position with your hands placed slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  2. Ensure your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels, engaging your core and glutes to maintain this alignment.
  3. Position your feet together or slightly apart for better balance.

Execution

  1. Lower your body by bending your elbows until your chest is just above the ground.
  2. Explosively push through your hands to propel your upper body off the ground.
  3. While in mid-air, quickly clap your hands together before returning them to the starting position.
  4. Land softly with your hands back in the original push-up position, immediately bending your elbows to absorb the impact.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Finishing

  1. After completing your set, carefully lower your knees to the ground.
  2. Push your hips back to sit on your heels and stretch your arms forward into a child's pose to relax your muscles.
  3. Slowly rise to a standing position when you are ready.
