How to Execute Cable Crunches

Setup

  1. Attach a rope handle to a high pulley on a cable machine.
  2. Kneel down a few feet away from the machine, facing it, and grasp the rope handles with both hands. Your hands should be positioned near your ears or slightly above your head.
  3. Keep your hips stationary and your back straight. Engage your core muscles to prepare for the movement.

Execution

  1. Begin the movement by contracting your abdominal muscles and curling your torso downwards towards your knees.
  2. Focus on bringing your elbows towards your thighs, ensuring that the movement is driven by your abs and not your arms or hips.
  3. Continue to crunch down until your elbows are close to or touching your knees, maintaining a controlled motion throughout.
  4. Pause briefly at the bottom of the movement to maximize muscle contraction.

Finishing

  1. Slowly reverse the motion, allowing your torso to uncurl and return to the starting position.
  2. Ensure that you maintain tension in your abs throughout the return phase to keep the muscles engaged.
  3. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
